Founded in 1997, Dot Origin began trading via its online retail store Smartcard Focus and quickly established strong partnerships with many leading manufacturers of smartcard hardware. The growing field of smartcard technology was opening new opportunities in several markets and Dot Origin's technical knowledge and close industry links allowed the company to support the uptake of this technology by supplying developers and early adopters with both hardware and impartial advice.
As demand for smartcard based products increased so did the knowledge, experience and reputation of the company and Dot Origin soon built up strong relationships with resellers throughout the UK. This led to the creation of Dot Distribution, a new business unit specifically aimed at supporting distributors, resellers and systems integrators.
The market insight gained from these early exploits in the industry created a strong foundation for identifying customer needs and market trends which led to Dot Origin's progression into product development.
By applying a philosophy of easy-to-deploy, customer driven solutions, Dot Origin's product development team saw early success in the form of 'EasyTac downloader', a software application for downloading digital tachograph data. The success of this approach plus the growth of the Smartcard Focus and Dot Distribution business units led to the company outgrowing its offices.
In 2007 Dot Origin relocated to new premises in Surrey providing the company with expanded warehouse facilities, a centralised development team and a good standpoint for its future growth.
Since then Dot Origin has expanded all aspects of its business and has continued to grow in size and market share.
